The official handbook

Everything on the test comes from the Pennsylvania Driver's Manual (PUB 95), also available in Spanish, multi. Read it alongside the practice tests. Our chapter-by-chapter guide.

Renewing your license

No automatic age-based road test. Each month PennDOT randomly picks drivers over 45 for retesting seven months before license renewal; they need vision and physical exams from a health care provider of their choice, and a driver's exam if the results suggest one. Health care providers must report anyone 15 or older diagnosed with a condition that could impair driving. Drivers 65+ may choose a two-year license ($27.50 renewal) instead of four years ($39.50).
