The official handbook

Everything on the test comes from the New Jersey Driver Manual, also available in Spanish, ar, zh, ht, ko, tl, gu, pt. Read it alongside the practice tests. Our chapter-by-chapter guide.

Renewing your license

The MVC lists no age-based road or knowledge retesting. Licenses are renewed every 4 years, usually online, and the MVC may periodically require a vision recheck. If your license expired more than 3 years ago, you must start over as a first-time driver.
