New Hampshire DMV exam simulator
Take the knowledge test the way the DMV gives it: 40 questions picked at random from all 271 of ours, 32 correct to pass, with a 40-minute time limit. You only see your answers at the end. Pass three in a row and you're ready for the real thing.
40 questions · 32 to pass · 40 minutes
How the simulator works
- Every attempt draws a new random set of 40 questions from across the handbook.
- No feedback until you finish, as in the real test. Then you see your score and every question you missed, with the explanation and handbook reference.
- Your results stay in this browser. After three passes in a row you'll see "You're ready".
- The timer matches the real test's 40 minutes; when it runs out, the test ends.
About the real New Hampshire DMV test
Computer-based touch-screen test at a DMV office, by appointment: 40 multiple-choice questions with four answers each, 40-minute limit; the test ends automatically if more than 8 are answered incorrectly or time runs out. Exams are random, so a retest shows different questions.
- Languages: English, American Sign Language (ASL), French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin Chinese (written and audible)
- If you fail: 10 calendar days after a failed knowledge or road test. Missing a road test or cancelling with less than 24 hours' notice means a 30-day wait.
- Fee: The DMV lists no separate test fee. You pay the license fee ($50 standard, $60 REAL ID, or Youth Operator $10 per year to age 21) and have your photo taken before testing begins.
- Audio or oral test: Automated oral testing with headphones available on request
On test day
- Bring the documents on the New Hampshire what-to-bring list, and check you meet the minimum age (15½ (practice driving only; New Hampshire issues no learner's permit)).
- You'll take a vision test first: 20/40 in both eyes; 20/30 if sight in only one eye. Corrective lenses needed to pass = 'B' restriction. Bring your glasses or contacts if you wear them.
- Read each question and every answer to the end before choosing; watch for words like "not" and "except".
- Review the hardest questions the night before: exact numbers are where most points are lost.
