What to bring to the Kansas KDOR Division of Vehicles permit test

  • Proof of legal name change if your name differs from your lawful presence document
  • Parent or guardian to sign the application/affidavit (applicants under 16)
  • DE-99 driver's education form if using it instead of the written test (driver's ed completion expires after 2 years)

What happens on the road test

After you pass: your permit

  • Hold it for at least Under 17: hold a Kansas-issued instruction permit for 1 full year (or until 17, whichever comes first) before the driving test/restricted license; driver's-ed permit slip (DE-99) time doesn't count. Permit holders 17 and older have no minimum hold period. before the road test.
  • Log 50 hours of supervised driving, 10 of them at night.
  • Drive only with a licensed adult at least 21 with at least one year of driving experience in the front seat
  • No one but the supervising adult in the front seat
  • No wireless communication devices except to report illegal activity or summon emergency help

Before you go

Take a practice test or two the day before, and the exam simulator to check you can pass in the real format. Bring originals, not photocopies, unless the KDOR Division of Vehicles says copies are accepted.
