Nebraska DMV exam simulator
Take the knowledge test the way the DMV gives it: 25 questions picked at random from all 261 of ours, 20 correct to pass. You only see your answers at the end. Pass three in a row and you're ready for the real thing.
25 questions · 20 to pass
How the simulator works
- Every attempt draws a new random set of 25 questions from across the handbook.
- No feedback until you finish, as in the real test. Then you see your score and every question you missed, with the explanation and handbook reference.
- Your results stay in this browser. After three passes in a row you'll see "You're ready".
- The DMV doesn't publish a time limit for this test, so the clock just shows how long you've taken.
The real test differs by age: Non-verbal picture test (applicants whose primary language isn't English or Spanish, or who have trouble reading): 24 questions, 20 to pass; Special restricted written test: 20 questions, 16 to pass. The simulator uses the main format.
About the real Nebraska DMV test
Automated testing machine/tablet at a driver licensing office. There is a separate written test for each license class; the LPE, LPD, SCP, POP and Class O tests come from the Driver's Manual. Passed written tests are valid for 6 months.
- Languages: Written and audio versions in English, Spanish and American Sign Language, plus a non-verbal picture test. A foreign-language dictionary may be used after an examiner reviews it. Applicants who start in Spanish can toggle to English.
- Attempts: No limit on tests 1-5. From test 4 the system asks whether the applicant has been told all options; after a 5th failure a supervisor gives test-6 instructions; after a 6th failure the applicant must complete an approved driver training course or wait 90 days from the last failure.
- If you fail: A failed test can't be retaken the same day. Tests 1-3: one day between tests. Test 4: the current date plus 7 days.
- Fee: The DMV lists no separate knowledge-test fee. You pay the document fee after passing: LPE, SCP or LPD $13, POP $20 (each including the $5 security fee).
- Audio or oral test: Headsets read the questions aloud (audio version).
On test day
- Bring the documents on the Nebraska what-to-bring list, and check you meet the minimum age (15 (Learner's Permit LPD); 14 (School Learner's Permit LPE)).
- You'll take a vision test first: 20/40 with both eyes (with or without corrective lenses) for an unrestricted license; 20/50 to 20/70 may be licensed with restrictions (e.g. G daylight only, F outside mirrors, X maximum speed); 20/80 or worse is denied. Field of vision 140 degrees or more unrestricted, 100-139 degrees with restrictions, under 100 degrees denied. Bring your glasses or contacts if you wear them.
- Read each question and every answer to the end before choosing; watch for words like "not" and "except".
- Review the hardest questions the night before: exact numbers are where most points are lost.
