Emergency Medical Services sign
Points to a facility that offers emergency medical care but is not open full-time.
What to do
Follow the sign to reach medical help.
Do not assume the facility is open at all hours; in a serious emergency call 911.
Where it's used
Section 2I.02 allows the Emergency Medical Services (D9-13) sign for facilities that provide emergency medical care but are not open full-time. It is a white symbol on a blue square, like other General Service signs. A HOSPITAL plaque or the Hospital sign itself may be used only for places open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Don't confuse it with
- Hospital: The H Hospital sign is limited to facilities open 24/7, while EMS may point to part-time emergency care.
- Emergency Vehicle: The yellow Emergency Vehicle sign warns of ambulances or fire trucks entering the road.
