Gas sign

Fuel is available off the road ahead.

What to do

Follow the sign to reach a gas station.

On rural roads, fill up when you see the sign if your tank is low, as the next service may be far away.

Where it's used

Section 2I.02 allows General Service signs such as Gas (D9-7) on conventional roads where services are infrequent and found only on a crossroad, and they are used more widely on freeways. It is a white fuel-pump symbol on a blue square (24 x 24 inches on conventional roads). Symbols and words may not be mixed on one sign, at intersections it must have a direction, and States may sign for alternative fuels too.

Don't confuse it with

  • Electric Vehicle Charging: The EV Charging sign shows a plug symbol and points to electric charging rather than fuel.
  • Food: The Food sign shows a knife and fork.
  • Lodging: The Lodging sign shows a bed.
