Lodging sign

Lodging is available off the road ahead.

What to do

Follow the sign to reach lodging.

If you are getting drowsy, use the next lodging or rest area to stop rather than pushing on.

Where it's used

Section 2I.02 allows the Lodging (D9-9) General Service sign where lodging is infrequent and found only on an intersecting road, and it is used more widely on freeways. It is a white bed symbol on a blue square. At intersections it must be accompanied by a direction message.

Don't confuse it with

  • Rest Area: A REST AREA offers parking and restrooms for a short break, while the Lodging sign points to places to stay overnight.
  • Food: The Food sign shows a knife and fork.
  • Hospital: The Hospital sign shows an H, which some drivers mistake for a hotel.
