Travel Info Call 511 sign
Tells drivers they can dial 511 for travel and road-condition information.
What to do
Get travel information before your trip or have a passenger call; do not use a hand-held phone while driving.
Check 511 before you leave or while safely stopped, or let a passenger call, rather than handling a phone while driving.
Where it's used
Section 2I.12 allows TRAVEL INFO CALL 511 (D12-5 or D12-5a) signs where a 511 service gives traffic, transit, weather, construction or road condition information. The D12-5 is a vertical white-on-blue sign with a 511 pictograph, which may be replaced by the agency's or program's own pictograph. Commercial logos may not be placed on these signs.
Don't confuse it with
- Emergency Call 911: The 911 sign is for emergencies only, while 511 gives travel and road information.
- No Hand-Held Phone Use by Driver: The No Hand-Held Phone sign reminds you not to hold a phone while driving, so 511 calls should be hands-free or made when stopped.
