No Hand-Held Phone Use by Driver sign

Tells drivers that state law prohibits using a hand-held phone while driving.

What to do

Do not hold or use a phone in your hand while driving.

Put the phone away or set it up hands-free before you start driving, and pull over safely if you need to handle it.

Wording may be adjusted to match the state law.

Where it's used

Section 2B.72 allows the STATE LAW NO HAND-HELD PHONE USE BY DRIVER sign to tell drivers that holding a phone while driving is prohibited. It comes as a wide horizontal sign (R16-15, 72 x 48 inches) or a smaller vertical version (R16-15a, 30 x 42 inches), black on white with a red symbol. A State may change the wording to match its law.

Don't confuse it with

  • Move Over or Reduce Speed: Both are STATE LAW reminder signs, but the move-over sign is about passing stopped emergency vehicles, not phone use.
