Right Lane Must Turn Right sign
Post-mounted word sign stating that traffic in the right lane is required to turn right at the intersection ahead.
What to do
If you are in the right lane, you must turn right. To go straight, change lanes early when it is safe.
Unless you plan to turn right, move out of the right lane as soon as it is safe so you are not forced to turn or make a last-second lane change.
Where it's used
The R3-7 word sign is a Mandatory Movement Lane Control sign (Section 2B.28) used for post-mounting only, at the near side of the intersection or near the upstream end of the turn lane, and never on the far side. It should be used only beside the full-width part of a mandatory turn lane, not alongside a through lane or a taper. It is black on white; R3-7L covers a left lane, and EXCEPT BUSES or EXCEPT BICYCLES plaques may be added.
Don't confuse it with
- Left Turn Only (lane control): The R3-5 sign is an overhead arrow sign with ONLY, while R3-7R is a roadside word sign, though both require a single movement.
- Lane Ends: A Lane Ends sign warns that the lane will disappear and you must merge, whereas this sign says the lane continues but must turn.
