Cattle Crossing sign

Cattle may be on or crossing the road.

What to do

Slow down and watch for livestock.

Slow down and be ready to stop for animals in the road, and never honk or try to rush them.

Where it's used

Section 2C.55 allows the Cattle Crossing (W11-4) sign before places where livestock may unexpectedly be on or cross the road. It is a black-on-yellow diamond with a cow symbol. Like other non-vehicular warning signs, it may carry a plaque such as AHEAD or NEXT XX MILES.

Don't confuse it with

  • Deer Crossing: Deer Crossing shows a leaping deer and warns of wild animals rather than farm livestock.
  • Farm Vehicle: Farm Vehicle warns of slow tractors and machinery on the road, not animals.
