Farm Vehicle sign
Slow-moving farm machinery may enter or travel on the road.
What to do
Watch for slow vehicles and pass only when it is safe and legal.
Expect very slow, wide machinery around blind spots and hills, and pass only where it is legal and you can see well ahead.
Where it's used
Section 2C.54 allows the Farm Vehicle (W11-5) sign where slow farm machinery may enter, cross or travel on the road, but only where sight distance is limited or such traffic would be unexpected. It is a black-on-yellow diamond with a tractor symbol. If the activity is seasonal, the sign should be removed or covered when it does not apply.
Don't confuse it with
- Truck Crossing: Truck Crossing warns of trucks entering or crossing, while Farm Vehicle warns of slow tractors and farm machinery.
- Cattle Crossing: Cattle Crossing warns of livestock, not machinery.
- Road Machinery Ahead: The orange ROAD MACHINERY AHEAD sign warns of construction equipment in a work zone.
