Two-Direction Large Arrow sign

Placed on the far side of a T-intersection, facing traffic on the stem of the T, to show that the road ends and you must turn left or right.

What to do

Slow down and prepare to stop or turn left or right; you cannot go straight.

Slow down and be ready to stop: the road ends here, so decide early whether you are turning left or right.

Where it's used

Section 2C.43 says that, if used, the Two-Direction Large Arrow (W1-7) goes on the far side of a T-intersection facing traffic on the stem, showing that the road does not continue straight. It must be a horizontal black-on-yellow rectangle with arrows pointing both left and right, and must not be used where there is no change in direction, such as at medians or piers. It is often preceded by a T-Intersection (W2-4) warning sign.

Don't confuse it with

  • One-Direction Large Arrow: The one-direction arrow marks a curve or turn going one way, while the two-direction arrow means you must turn either left or right.
  • Double Arrow: The diamond Double Arrow sign means traffic may pass on either side of an obstruction, while this sign means the road ends and you must turn.
  • T-Intersection: The T-Intersection diamond is the advance warning, while this arrow sits at the end of the T itself.
