Cross Road sign
A crossroad intersection is ahead, with possible turning or entering traffic.
What to do
Slow down and watch for vehicles entering or crossing from either side.
Ease off the gas and watch both sides for vehicles pulling out or crossing in front of you.
Where it's used
Section 2C.41 allows the Cross Road (W2-1) sign in advance of an intersection to warn that vehicles may turn or enter from both sides. It is a black-on-yellow diamond with a plus-shaped symbol, and should show the general layout of the intersection. It should not be used on approaches already controlled by STOP or YIELD signs or signals; an Advance Street Name plaque may be added to name the crossing road.
Don't confuse it with
- Side Road: Side Road shows a road joining from only one side, while Cross Road shows roads on both sides.
- T-Intersection: T-Intersection means your road ends and you must turn, while at a crossroad you can continue straight.
- Railroad Crossing Ahead: The round yellow railroad sign with an X warns of a train crossing, not a road intersection.
