No Gates or Lights plaque sign
Mounted under the advance warning sign at crossings without automatic gates or flashing signals.
What to do
Nothing will warn you of a train; slow down, look and listen, and stop if a train is coming.
Nothing will flash or lower to warn you, so slow down, look both ways and listen, and be ready to stop.
Where it's used
Section 8B.23 allows the NO GATES OR LIGHTS (W10-13P) plaque below a Grade Crossing Advance Warning sign (W10-1 to W10-4) at crossings with no automatic gates or signals. It is a horizontal black-on-yellow warning plaque (30 x 24 inches). It tells drivers that the crossing is passive and only the Crossbuck and any STOP or YIELD sign will be there.
Don't confuse it with
- No Train Horn: NO TRAIN HORN means trains do not routinely sound their horns, while NO GATES OR LIGHTS means there are no automatic warning devices.
- Number of Tracks plaque: The Number of Tracks plaque is white and goes under the Crossbuck.
