Stop Here When Flashing sign
Shows where to stop when the crossing's flashing-light signals are operating.
What to do
When the red lights flash, stop at this point and stay stopped until they stop flashing and it is safe.
When the red lights flash, stop at the line the sign points to and stay there until the lights go off and the tracks are clear.
Where it's used
Section 8B.09 allows STOP HERE WHEN FLASHING (R8-10 or R8-10a) signs at a grade crossing to show the stop line or stopping point when the flashing-light signals are operating. The R8-10 is a vertical black-on-white regulatory sign (24 x 36 inches) with an arrow pointing to the stopping point; the R8-10a is a shorter version. At crossings with traffic signals, STOP HERE ON RED (R10-6) is used for the same purpose.
Don't confuse it with
- Stop Here on Red: STOP HERE ON RED is tied to a traffic signal's red light, while this sign is tied to the railroad crossing's flashing lights.
- Do Not Stop on Tracks: DO NOT STOP ON TRACKS forbids stopping on the rails; this sign tells you where to stop before them.
- Stop Line: The stop line is the painted bar; this sign points to it.
