Uneven Lanes sign
There is a difference in height between travel lanes, often during paving work.
What to do
Take care when changing lanes.
Change lanes only when you need to, holding the wheel firmly and crossing the ridge at a shallow angle; take extra care on a motorcycle.
Also 6H.27 in work zones.
Where it's used
Section 2C.30 allows the UNEVEN LANES (W8-11) sign to warn that one travel lane is higher than the next. It is a black-on-yellow diamond word sign. It is most often seen during resurfacing, and Chapter 6H covers its use in work zones.
Don't confuse it with
- Low Shoulder: LOW SHOULDER is about a height difference between the lane and the shoulder, not between two lanes.
- Bump: BUMP warns of a sharp rise across the road, while UNEVEN LANES warns of a ridge along the lane edge.
