Bicycle Warning sign
Bicyclists may unexpectedly enter or share the road here.
What to do
Watch for bicyclists and give them plenty of room when passing.
Expect cyclists near or crossing the road and slow down, giving them plenty of room when you pass.
May use fluorescent yellow-green background.
Where it's used
Section 2C.54 allows the Bicycle Warning (W11-1) sign where bicycles may unexpectedly enter or share the road, and says these signs should be used only where sight distance is limited or the activity would be unexpected. It is a diamond with a black bicycle symbol on yellow or fluorescent yellow-green. Plaques such as AHEAD, XX FEET or NEXT XX MILES may be added, and a post-mounted sign at the crossing point itself must have a diagonal downward arrow (W16-7P) plaque.
Don't confuse it with
- Bicycles Allowed Use of Full Lane: BICYCLES MAY USE FULL LANE is a white regulatory sign about lane position, while this yellow sign only warns that cyclists may be present.
- Bike Lane: The BIKE LANE sign marks a lane reserved for bicycles, while the Bicycle Warning sign warns of cyclists on or crossing the road.
- No Bicycles: No Bicycles is a regulatory sign banning bicycles, with a red circle and slash.
