Where it's used
Section 6H.14 allows the NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN AHEAD (W23-2) sign on the approach to an intersection or along a road to warn of changed lane use, road layout or signal phasing. It is a black-on-orange diamond word sign. To keep it effective it should be shown for up to 2 weeks and then covered or removed until needed again.
Don't confuse it with
- Road Work Ahead: ROAD WORK AHEAD warns of active work, while NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN warns that the layout or signals you are used to have changed.
- Right (Left) Lane Closed Ahead: LANE CLOSED AHEAD names a specific closed lane, while this sign covers any change in the pattern.
