No Parking (symbol) sign
Symbol version of a no-parking sign: a black letter P inside a red circle with a slash.
What to do
Do not park in the area the sign covers.
Read any plaque under the symbol, such as ON PAVEMENT or ON BRIDGE, to see exactly where parking is banned.
Where it's used
Section 2B.53 says the R8-3 symbol sign or a NO PARKING word message may be used to prohibit any parking along a roadway, where single signs give enough notice without marking a zone's start and end. It is a white square with a black P under a red circle and slash, the P being required to be black. Word plaques such as ON PAVEMENT (R8-3c), ON BRIDGE (R8-3d), ON TRACKS (R8-3e) or EXCEPT ON SHOULDERS (R8-3f) narrow where the ban applies.
Don't confuse it with
- No Parking Any Time: NO PARKING ANY TIME (R7-1) uses red words and arrows to mark a zone, while R8-3 is the symbol version used as a single sign.
- Reserved Parking (accessible): The accessible parking sign permits parking for vehicles with a disability placard or plate rather than prohibiting it.
