No Trucks sign

A selective exclusion sign: trucks are not allowed on this road or facility under state or local law.

What to do

Drivers of trucks must use another route.

If you are driving a truck, take the alternate route before you pass this sign; in a car, expect the road to have no heavy truck traffic.

Where it's used

Section 2B.45 lists No Trucks as a Selective Exclusion sign used to give notice that state or local law excludes a type of traffic from a road or facility; the sign must clearly show the excluded type. It is a white square showing a black truck under a red circle and slash, and it should be on the right side of the road at a point where drivers can still choose another route. Related signs include NO THRU TRUCKS (R5-2b) and the EXCEPT LOCAL DELIVERY (R5-2aP) plaque, and a Weight Limit sign should be used instead when the restriction is based on weight.

Don't confuse it with

  • Weight Limit: WEIGHT LIMIT restricts vehicles by gross weight, while No Trucks excludes trucks as a vehicle type.
  • Truck Crossing: The yellow Truck Crossing diamond warns that trucks may enter the road, the opposite of a ban.
  • No Bicycles: No Bicycles uses the same red circle and slash but excludes bicycles instead of trucks.
