Road Machinery Ahead sign
Road machinery is operating in or next to the roadway.
What to do
Slow down and watch for equipment entering or moving in the road.
Slow down and watch for equipment backing, turning or pulling into your lane, as operators may not see you.
Where it's used
Section 6H.20 allows the ROAD MACHINERY AHEAD (W21-3) sign to warn of machinery working in or next to the road. It is a black-on-orange diamond work zone word sign. It is normally part of a set of work zone signs leading into the work area.
Don't confuse it with
- Workers: The Workers sign warns of people working near the road, while this sign warns of heavy equipment.
- Farm Vehicle: The yellow Farm Vehicle sign warns of tractors on rural roads, not construction machinery.
- Truck Crossing: The yellow Truck sign warns of trucks entering or crossing, not work zone equipment.
