Lane-Use Arrow Markings sign
White arrows on the pavement showing the movements required or allowed from a lane.
What to do
Get into the lane whose arrow matches where you want to go.
Read the arrows early and move into the lane that matches your route before the solid lane lines begin.
Where it's used
Section 3B.23 describes white lane-use arrow markings that show the required or allowed movements from a lane or in a two-way left-turn lane. They should be used in exclusive turn lanes and turn bays, normally with at least two arrows (one near the start of the full-width lane and one before the stop line), and where through lanes become mandatory turn lanes, often with ONLY word markings. An arrow at the far end of a turn lane can also help prevent wrong-way entry.
Don't confuse it with
- Left Turn Only (lane control): The LEFT TURN ONLY sign is the post-mounted or overhead version of the same lane-use rule.
- Optional Movement Lane Control: The optional movement sign shows a lane where you may go straight or turn, which can also be shown with a combined arrow marking.
- Two-Way Left-Turn Lane Markings: Two-way left-turn lanes use opposing arrows inside a center lane bounded by yellow lines.
