No Passing Zone sign

A pennant-shaped sign posted on the left side of the road at the start of a no-passing zone. The pennant shape is used only for this sign.

What to do

Do not start to pass from this point until the no-passing zone ends.

Do not start a pass once you see the pennant, and finish any pass already under way before the solid line begins.

Where it's used

Section 2C.53 requires the NO PASSING ZONE (W14-3) sign to be a pennant-shaped isosceles triangle with its long axis horizontal and pointing right, and the pennant shape is used for no other sign. When used, it goes on the left-hand side of the road at the start of a no-passing zone already marked by pavement lines or DO NOT PASS signs. It is black on yellow, so it can be seen by a driver looking ahead to pass.

Don't confuse it with

  • Do Not Pass: DO NOT PASS is a white rectangular regulatory sign on the right, while the yellow pennant is a warning on the left side at the start of the zone.
  • Pass With Care: PASS WITH CARE marks the end of a no-passing zone, the opposite of this sign.
  • Double Solid Yellow Center Line: The double solid yellow line bans passing by marking, while the pennant is a sign that backs it up.
