Road Work Next XX Miles sign
Placed before work zones longer than 2 miles to show the length of the zone (to the nearest whole mile).
What to do
Expect work-zone conditions for the whole distance shown.
Expect work zone conditions, lower speeds and possible stops for the whole distance shown, not just at the first cones.
Where it's used
Section 6H.35 says the ROAD WORK NEXT XX MILES (G20-1) sign should be installed before work zones longer than 2 miles, and may be used for shorter ones. It is a horizontal black-on-orange rectangle, and the distance must be given to the nearest whole mile. It may be mounted on a Type 3 barricade.
Don't confuse it with
- Road Work Ahead: ROAD WORK AHEAD is the standard diamond advance warning, while this rectangle tells you how long the work zone is.
- End Road Work: END ROAD WORK marks where the work zone finishes.
