Yellow Left Edge Line sign
On divided highways, one-way streets and ramps, a solid yellow line marks the left edge of the roadway.
What to do
If yellow is on your left, you are traveling the correct way. If it is on your right, you may be going the wrong way.
Keep yellow on your left; if you see the yellow line on your right, you may be going the wrong way and should stop safely.
Where it's used
Section 3B.09 says that on divided highways, one-way streets and ramps, the left edge line, if used, must be a normal-width solid yellow line marking the left edge of the roadway or showing driving restrictions to its left. Together with the white right edge line, it tells drivers which way traffic flows. Edge lines are required on freeways and expressways under Section 3B.10.
Don't confuse it with
- White Edge Line (right edge): The white edge line marks the right edge; the yellow one marks the left edge on one-way roads.
- Double Solid Yellow Center Line: Double yellow center lines separate opposing traffic on a two-way road, not the edge of a one-way roadway.
